Overview

General information:The high resolution global sea surface temperature analysis of MERSEA is produced at IFREMER/CERSAT . It provides a daily gap-free map of the foundation sea surface temperature (e.g. without diurnal cycle effect) at 10km resolution, using all available infra-red and microwave spaceborne sensors.

Processing information: The ODYSSEA(Ocean Data analYsis System for merSEA) processing chain developed to produce this dataset is based on a careful selection and correction of available observations, using adjustement to in situ and AATSR sensor observations, and an optimal interpolation method to filll the gaps.

Description of observation methods/instruments:The ODYSSEA analysis uses observations by the following sensors : AATSR onboard ENVISAT, AVHRR onboard NOAA-17 and NOAA-18, Imager onboard GOES-11 and GOES-12, SEVIRI onboard MSG-2, AMSRE onboard AQUA and TMI onboard TRMM

Quality / Accuracy / Calibration information: http://www.mersea.eu.org/Satellite/sst_validation.html

Suitability, Expected type of users / uses: any application requiring gap free sea surface temperature fields : ocean model assimilation and validation, coastal and open-ocean oceanography
